SMART: Science Math and Reading Tutoring

The SMART program provides quality after-school tutoring to children in Avondale and Woodlawn. Students receive homework help, skills development, and mentoring two afternoons a week during the school year. Unlike some tutoring programs, our students are matched with a single tutor for an entire year. It is not uncommon for these relationships to last two to three years. Many of our students have been in the SMART program for five years or more. The stability of the program leads to academic improvement, character development, and improved social skills.
	Through SMART, M-POWER Ministries has developed relationships in the neighborhood schools, with community leaders, and with the families of our students. While our purpose is to minister to the needs of our students, our staff and volunteers also provide ministry and support to the students’ family and wider social circle.
